Higher Purpose Works to Revitalize Saginaw Neighborhoods

Higher Purpose is a new ministry of Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan, dedicated to building vibrant neighborhoods in Saginaw through faith, love and collaboration.

“The focus of Higher Purpose is neighborhood revitalization, career opportunities and personal development,” said Rescue Ministries CEO Dan Streeter.

Located at 2800 Holland Avenue, not far from City Rescue Mission, Higher Purpose harnesses the experience and knowledge of church volunteers, resources from grant funding, and partnerships with likeminded nonprofits to make vital changes in the surrounding community. Higher Purpose also seeks to partner with neighbors near the mission, focusing on a few blocks at a time, with the goal of equitably improving lives through community investment and personalized mentoring.

Work at Higher Purpose is already underway, with regular life skills classes and career fairs being offered, home improvement and blight removal projects ongoing, and street-level case management happening on a daily basis in the adjacent neighborhoods.

“Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year,” said Streeter. “Since 1905, we’ve continually developed to better reach those in need. We’re thankful to continue this tradition with Higher Purpose in 2025.”
