Appreciated Assets
Stocks, mutual funds, time saving certificates, valuable collections, other types of securities, land, crops, and livestock that have appreciated in value offer very economical, yet productive ways of giving. Regardless of the purchase price, the current full value establishes the gift amount. Using this donation method you avoid capital gain taxes.
Depreciated Assets
This option enables you to turn a no longer needed or wanted item into a tax-deductible gift. Examples include: automobiles, boats, motorcycles, motor homes, trailers, and land or water sport vehicles.
Insurance Policies
Policies that are paid-up and / or no longer needed for their original intended purpose can be assigned to City Rescue Mission. The cash value as well as accumulated dividends are tax-deductible. If you have a policy or policies you do not wish to assign, you may give the current cash value and / or dividend accumulations. Another option is that you can also assign future cash value increases and dividends to City Rescue Mission.
Proceeds From a Sale of Personal Property
You may have several items of value that you no longer need or want. You can put their value to use by selling them and giving the proceeds of their sale to City Rescue Mission. It is possible that proceeds of the sale may not be taxable. However, the cash gift would be tax-deductible gift.
